Unit: Dinosaurs
|
Hundreds of
millions of years ago, long before humans had begun to evolve, animals lived on
Earth that were very different from the animals living here today. These animals
included the group of reptiles known as dinosaurs. Dinosaurs lived during a time
called the Mesozoic era, which was between 250 and 65 million years
ago.
The popular perception of dinosaurs is of enormous, towering animals
such as Brachiosaurus and Tyrannosaurus. There were, however, many kinds of
dinosaurs, ranging from the size of a chicken to the size of a house - or even
bigger. There were dinosaurs that were quadrupedal (walked on four legs, like a
dog) and bipedal (walked on two legs, like a human). Some dinosaurs were
herbivores and only ate plants, while others were flesh-eating carnivores.
